Words!

May 15th, 2008 by Chandana · No Comments

A profusion of words scatter across perfectly ruled paper. Some running at the speed of thought, like a bunch of children in green football fields. While some march in neat rows, filling the lines like soldiers in a parade.

Small word, big words. Tall and skinny words. Short and scrumptious; plump and perky. Cheerful words, smart words. Words of all kinds rushing across paper. Some running to fill a void; some heading towards a perfectly thought out storyline. While some meandering along, like whistling schoolboys, only too happy to find a place in ‘Poetree’.

Deep, delicious prose, scrumptious storylines, tangy poetry - they’re all filled with words. Words of all kinds.

They’re like people, these words. Look at them carefully sometime; peer really hard and you’ll see one with a bright, beaming face, skipping about in the alleys and lanes of your thought fields.

There will be some glum and boring ones, moving about with heavy steps through your work. There’ll be some who’ll arrive in a whirlwind and stir up some magic in those sentences.

Words that will sulk and need coaxing. Some will wail with the fury of a newborn baby and flail their little arms in a literary tantrum. Some words will sing to you, like a crooner in the new album, while some will do a little jig and a jitterbug.

They’ll come as Nouns, Pronouns, Metaphors and what not. But at heart they’re all words. Play with them and they’ll play a better game than football. Wrestle with them. Scold them and send some back to their dormitories. And invite some new ones to fit into your latticed sentences. Pull some out from the pages of a dictionary. Shuffle them like a pack of cards; juggle them like a clown in a circus.

Put them to work; give them something to think about. Give them a life on paper.
