Writers are generally quite fascinated with the idea of another writer’s workspace. I can spend endless hours looking at pictures of places that provide inspiration to other writers – known and new. Some have great big offices and bookshelves enough to fill a library. Others make do with the corner of a dining table or a walk-in closet. I share a study with my better-half and on the wall in front of me (I stay away from windows- too distracting!) is a postcard of Roald Dahl’s writing place. All he needed was a battered old armchair with a tray made to rest on the arms of the chair to keep books and paper on and a footstool. He got almost all his writing done there.
Every time I think to myself “If only I had my own space, I could write better”, I look at Dahl’s chair and think “If he didn’t need more, who am I to complain?”
Other writer’s writing spaces can be inspirational. Whether you are prompted to write or redecorate your own writing place, it is always fascinating to have that glimpse into a creative life.
Where do you like to write?
On a dull day, I like browsing through these sites where you can see pictures and read about well-known writers places. Enjoy.
Then go do some writing (or reading).
