Thank God it’s Friday (TGIF) – Bits and Baubles

June 27th, 2008 by Chandana · No Comments

The weekend is around the corner – two and a half days of sheer freedom. Freedom to read, paint, watch movies, travel, swim…

Reading places: I plan to read a book, nestled in my favourite chair, with a cup of coffee to give me company. I love to read on the porch during the monsoons, with the rhythm of the rain, the swirling elephant-coloured clouds and the cool rain-laden breeze adding to the fun of the book. I also enjoy reading in bed, in the kitchen while stirring a sauce, in the living room under a pool of mellow, buttery light of the paper lamp.

I came across this interesting post about the places that people like to read in:

“…in an old armchair in a corner of my workroom, from where, when I look up from my book, I can see across the valley to the fields and houses on the other side, but can’t be seen by anyone outside.”

“…probably sitting on a rock beside a moorland stream, though I don’t often get a chance to do that. My next favourite is in bed, which happens a lot more often. But I’m happy to do it anywhere.”

“…at home on my very comfortable chaise lounge with a cup of coffee balancing precariously on the arm.”

“…on the sofa in my lounge, with a pile of cushions behind my head!

“I’ve always had a fantasy about reading a favourite book up a tree - but I think I’d be hard-pressed to climb up one nowadays, especially if I’m wearing high heels. So now I’ll choose my special comfy rocking chair as my favourite reading place.”

Well, where do you like to read? Up in a tree house? On a rocking horse or a rocking chair? In a bookshop?

Books: I plan to read ‘Goodnight and God bless’ by Anita Nair over the weekend. Honestly, it was the cozy picture of a perfect reading place – a fluffy cushion to sink into and a big cup of coffee/tea/malted milk accompanied by an itsy-bitsy piece of nut-encrusted brownie that actually got me flipping through Nair’s latest book. The jacket promises a “sparkling collection of literary essays, each one a bedtime rumination. This is a book about books, writers, book events, mice, mothers, airport hotels……..”

This and That: If you enjoy drawing, painting, illustrating; and the sheer pleasure of creating with crayons, colour pencils, charcoal and paints, then here is a website you must visit:

Illustration Friday

I loved the quirky to cute illustrations packed into this site, the interesting themes, the play of colours and imagination. In fact, I’m all motivated to rush to my drawing book after I’ve put up this post and try out this week’s theme. Well, with that, I wish you a happy weekend - a weekend spent doing all the things you love.
