Remembering A.A.Milne

January 18th, 2008 by Chryselle · 1 Comment

“My spelling is Wobbly. It’s good spelling but it Wobbles, and the letters get in the wrong places.”

Today is the birth anniversary of Alan Alexander Milne (A.A.Milne), novelist and playwright. Milne wrote many things, but he is remembered mostly for creating Winnie the Pooh and all the other lovable characters in the series.

There’s a lot a writer can learn from the Pooh series. Think about this:

“Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.”

“Bores can be divided into two classes; those who have their own particular subject, and those who do not need a subject.”

“Almost anyone can be an author; the business is to collect money and fame from this state of being.”

Coincidentally, my latest library book is ‘The Tao of Pooh and the Te of Piglet’ by Benjamin Hoff.  Have you read it yet?

Yep, I’ve read The Tao of Pooh and the Te of Piglet, and have a copy of The Tao of Pooh alone.

Milne was such a genius. I admire the way he can simplify things so much and say them just so, making a load of sense. I have a big hardbound book of his Pooh stories and am keeping it out of my daughter’s reach, until she grows old enough to not spoil it!
