Ranked List of Online Literary Journals

January 4th, 2008 by Marques · 2 Comments

Since a much talked subject for new and established writers is where to publish (or try to), and it has also been the subject of many articles here at the Reading and Writing Lounge, I thought the list compiled by Scott at the Purple Monkey might come in handy.

In his post, Scott goes into detail about why publishing in online magazines as opposed to the more conventional paper ones might be a path to follow when it comes to exposure and even prestige, albeit less ego boosting (this one is mine) and ends with a list of the 15 highest ranked Online Literary Journals.

And they are as follows:

  1. Pindeldyboz
  2. Eclectica Magazine
  3. Narrative Magazine
  4. Agni
  5. Identity Theory
  6. Word Riot
  7. FRiGG
  8. Fiction Warehouse
  9. Strange Horizons
  10. The Barcelona Review
  11. Clarkesworld Magazine
  12. Fail Better
  13. Stickman Review
  14. Mississippi Review
  15. HOBART

For a more detailed review of Scott’s analysis, I recommend reading his raw data (found also on his article).

Some of these publications also have a paper published magazine, so your ego might also be satisfied.

As a personal note, I’ll have to say that from some of those publications all I had were rejections.

And what about you? What experienced did you have with these 15 or any other e-magazines? Do you think having your work published online instead of on paper makes it less valuable? Share your thoughts on the comments bellow.
