Writing Opportunities
- If you’re a writer in the Daventry region (UK) on the look out for local papers to write for, the Daventry Post is a new newspaper launched by the Trinity Group.
- The Poets and Writers website has been relaunched and the latest classifieds (March/April) are now online. Whether you’re looking to write for anthologies, magazines, poetry chapbooks or want information on workshops and retreats, you’ll find it here.
- The NY Times is inviting US based college students to participate in an essay competition for their column ‘ Modern Love’. The winner gets $1000 in prize money and the essay printed in the NY Times. Deadline for submissions is March 31, 2008.
- Love football? Premiership Today is looking for football writers.

Pebble Lake Review is pleased to announce our first ever theme issue: Illness & Health. We are reading for this issue until December 15, 2008. We will continue to read general submissions year round as well. Pebble Lake Review a print literary journal publishing poetry, fiction, nonfiction, reviews, and the occasional graphic short. PLR has regularly appeared
on Verse Daily and appears in this year’s Pushcart Prize anthology. PLR publishes three issues a year: Fall/Winter, Spring, and Summer. Samples and guidelines are available on the website.
How to Submit: Please send typed manuscript with cover letter listing publication credits, if any, and a SASE. Name, address, and email must appear on cover letter. Accepts simultaneous submissions (if noted), no previously published
material, no multiple submissions. Submissions will be accepted via email and postal mail (no disks). Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will be returned unread. Response time is typically 1-4 months.
Poetry: Send a maximum of 5 poems care of Amanda Auchter, Editor, following the general guidelines above. If submitting via email, send poems either as a Word or RTF attachment only. All poems should appear in one attachment. If submitting via postal mail, send to the address below. Please do not send: greeting card verse, amateur/children’ s poetry, or erotica. *If sending for the theme issue the word “THEME” should appear in your subject line.
Fiction: Send a short story, 3,000 words maximum care of Fiction Editor, following the general guidelines above. If submitting via email, send stories to fiction (at) pebblelakereview.com> (replace (at) with @) as Word or RTF
attachment only. If submitting via postal mail, send to the address below.
Nonfiction: We accept essays, commentary, memoir, and excerpts or larger works (memoirs in progress) of 3,000 words or less. Submission should follow the general guidelines above. Send work to <nonfiction (at) pebblelakereview.com> care of Nonfiction editor (replace (at) with @)as a Word or RTF attachment only.
Payment/Terms: Acquires one-time online and print rights. Contributor will receive one complimentary issue.
