Summer is here with its heat, sunshine and fun. While, it’s the perfect time for your children to splash around in the swimming pool, this season can be great for curling up with a book too. Here is how you can introduce your little leprechauns to some summer reading.
You may want to begin by mapping out a plan – what kind of books do all of you want to read; favourite authors and themes; which places do you want to read in (example: in the tree house, porch or on the bunk bed). Sit around the table together and ask everyone to chip in with their ideas.
Work out a menu of choices. Once you have a plan in place, you can create a list of interesting authors, books and stories that can make up for some fun reading. Example: Pick out themes like Garden, animals and beach and put together a box of books that have stories on these themes.
Stock up your book shelves and magazine racks with fresh reading material. New books are bound to generate interest in kids who enjoy the written word.
These little tips should get you started with the summer book reading program.
