Query Challenge 2008

December 27th, 2007 by Chryselle · 1 Comment

If you need a push to get writing, join Kristen King’s Query Challenge 2008. Kristen challenges writers to send out atleast 120 queries in the year.

Before you balk at the idea, think about this :  120 queries a year = 2.3 queries a week. That’s so do-able, isn’t it?

For the challenge, submissions without queries (i.e submitting complete manuscripts in the first instance) also count. However, if you send a query and then the subsequent submission, that counts as just one.

I have found this challenge to be one of the best motivators around. While I didn’t meet the challenge for 2007, I reached the half-way mark. In the bargain, I’m now writing a monthly column, have had an essay accepted in a national newspaper and have enough work to keep me occupied. And I’m being paid for my work.

Freelancing is hard work, but it is a lot easier than you think.  If you need a reason to keep sending those queries out, sign up. Leave a comment if you’re taking part.

Count me in!

Thanks for the link, Chryselle! I’m working on the official rules and regulations for this round. Keep an eye on Inkthinker for the post. :]
