Christmas for writers

Merry Christmas, everybody!

Christmas is traditionally one of the most loved days of the year. You get presents (and it’s not your birthday), there’s fun and laughter and it’s a day off from work!

You may not have much time during this week to read or write. Keep a notebook handy, however. You will get lots of ideas in the course of the festivities. Make a quick note of them so you don’t forget.

For a writer, every minute brings inspiration. Here are some ideas :

  • Kids don’t like turkey? Do you have another kid-friendly option? Make a note, then pitch it to a parenting mag for next Christmas!
  • Guests - easy ways to plan a party.
  • Gifts - use your experience to make a list of do’s and don’ts for next year.
  • Green Christmas - what did you do with all the leftovers - food, wrapping paper, unwanted gifts?
  • Holiday traditions - do you have any?

All of these ideas (and I’m sure you’ll have a lot more) can be developed into articles or fillers for magazines. Have fun!
